  • ELT-ENGLISH LANGUAGE TEACHING: RESEARCH & PROJECT WORK -An Abstract- HELPING LERNERS LEARN ENGLISH
  • Keeping in view the various problems faced by the English Teacher, this project undertakes a field based investigation into the strategies being adopted and suggests certain other methods that can be adopted, by the teachers of English ,to help non-native speakers learn English more effectively
  • This investigation has an undercurrent; an examination of the demands that need to be met by an English Teacher in a regional medium school. The main objective of the teacher of English is to make the students "Comprehend" and "Use" English. It will be of interest to observe the extent to which the learners’ mother tongue is likely to influence, hinder or interfere with the teacher’s attempts to use just the target language English, in the classroom i.e. by using certain teaching strategies, and whether the teacher of English is successful in avoiding the use of L1 in the L2 (English) class
  • The purpose of this Project is to improve the strategies adopted by the English teacher and suggest a few more, to motivate and help learners learn English as a Second Language (Foreign Language). Some classroom observations were made, suggestions were given and feedback was encouraged, from the teachers/students of English. A brief period of teaching was also undertaken by the investigator, in the same institution and certain teaching strategies were implemented. Based on this research and field work, the Project presents an analysis of teaching strategies that can help non-native learners of English
  • The following is the synopsis of the various chapters into which the Project Work is divided
  • Chapter One: The chapter is based on the problems faced by the teacher of English, and the role of the teacher in helping non-native speakers, to learn a new language
  • Chapter Two: This chapter consists of an exhaustive description of the main project, the planning, the institution that was selected, and the reason for confining this investigation only to these students
  • Chapter Three: The final chapter is a summary of the major findings of this Project and the conclusions arrived at, from the field-based investigations and research
