  • 1. Broadband Dielectric Spectroscopy (as a function of temperature and pressure), X-ray scattering techniques, Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC), Polarizing Optical Microscopy (POM), and Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM) to study:
  • [a] Self-assembly and molecular dynamics of discotic and calamitic liquid crystals
  • [b] Structure and dynamics in polymer nanocomposites
  • [c] Local and global polymer dynamics in restricted geometries
  • [d] Self-assembly, phase state, molecular dynamics, and kinetics of structure formation
  • [e] Structure and dynamics of block copolymers under 1D and 2D nanoconfinement
  • 2. Optical Tweezers to Study:
  • [a] Interaction Forces between microsized silica particles at varying pH, salt concentration, and valence
  • [b] Forces of interaction between poly(2-vinyl pyridine) spherical brushes at varying pH, salt concentration, and valence
  • [c] Forces within single pairs of charged colloids in aqueous solutions of ionic liquids
  • [d] Sliding and sticking friction within single pairs of DNA-grafted colloids[5] Micro-rheology on polymer-grafted colloids
  • 3. Scanning Force Microscopy (AFM colloidal probe technique) to study:
  • [a] The interaction forces between end-grafted polyelectrolyte brushes and colloidal particles with and without grafted brushes in situ in electrolyte solutions of varying pH, concentration, and valence
  • [b] The interaction forces between end-grafted mixed polyelectrolyte brushes and colloidal particles with and without grafted brushes in situ in electrolyte solutions of varying pH, concentration, and valence
  • [c] Besides the surrounding medium the chain length, grafting density, synthesis method of the brushes, and size of the colloidal particles are varied
