Abstract :Background: Hospital-acquired infection is one of the most common health problems, and it is a global issue that effect on quality of care provided. The nurse is one of healthcare professionals’ team that plays an essential role in the control of hospital infection and protect patients during hospitalization from the spread of infection to deliver high-quality care. Aim: The aims to assess the effect of evidence-based guidelines on knowledge, attitude and self-reported behavior of nurses regarding hospital-acquired infection at female wards in Wadi- Aldwaser general hospital
Subjects and Methods: Quasi-experimental research design was conducted. The purposive sample for all nurses (55) of female departments in Wadi- Aldwaser general hospital. The enrolled nurses distributed as follows; (10) nurses in the internal medicine department, (15) nurses in the surgical department, (10) nurses in pediatrics department, (10) nurses in the obstetrics and gynecology department, and (10) nurses in intensive care unit. With experience, at least one year, with age 20- 45 years old and they work as direct patients care nurses. A pretest-posttest questionnaire was designed and used in this study. Results: The present study showed that nurses who received evidence-based guidelines regarding infection prevention showed statistically significant improvement in their behavior after the implementation of evidence-based guidelines compared with before implementation. There was a significant positive correlation between knowledge, attitude and self-reported behavior before the implementation of evidence-based guidelines while after the implementation of evidence-based practice guidelines; there was non-significant correlation occurred conclusions &recommendation: it can conclude from the present study that the evidence-based practice guidelines are essential for nurses. So, the educational and training programs based on evidence-based practice guidelines regarding infection control should be accessible and persistently provided to the health care team to improve their quality of care.
